Behind The Wheel (30 hours of classroom must be completed before registering)Drivers Education👉 Your student must have completed the 30- hours of classroom training before registering for Behind the Wheel. This registration is for the 6 hours of Behind the Wheel required by the state of Minnesota and does not include any classroom time. Once you have registered for this class (and it has been verified that you have completed the 30 hours of classroom) you will get an email from the Department of Public Safety. This email is required in order to take your permit test. The state requires that you are registered in an approved Behind the Wheel program prior to taking your permit test. You need to allow 3 business days once you have registered for Behind the Wheel for the email from the Department of Public Safety to be generated. If you completed your 30 hours of classroom at Waconia High School we can verify you have completed this. If you took your 30 hours of classroom with a private company, you will need to provide your completion letter during the registration process. Participants who have successfully completed classroom training sessions and have been issued a permit, are eligible for 6 hours of behind the wheel training. This state requirement is an opportunity for students to receive additional driving experience with a certified driving instructor. Students names are entered into a database. The date of their 16th birthday, along with the date of registration, will determine their priority on the waiting list. We encourage students to register early. Do not schedule your driver’s test before you start your 6 hours of Behind the Wheel. If you are participating in an after-school activity, please be aware that this limits your scheduling availability with the Behind the Wheel instructors. A $25.00 fee is assessed if a student is scheduled and he/she cancels a lesson with less than a 24-hour notification. The instructor will not reschedule a student lesson until they have paid the penalty fee in the Community Education office. A $25.00 fee is assessed if a student drops the program altogether. The balance would be refunded. If you would like to split the $348 into 2 payments you will need to come to the Comm Ed office in person to register. **If you register for this class before completing the 30-hours of classroom, your registration will be canceled and you will be charged a $10 credit card processing fee out of your refund** Email Sarah Ackerman: sackerman@isd110.org with any questions.Fall 2026 -
