Chess Club Grades K-5 & 6th-12th (2026-2027)Whether you have never played chess and want to learn the basics or it you have played some and want to improve your skills, Waconia Chess Club is a fun, learning experience. Research shows that kids who play chess often see increases in scholastic performance, especially in math and reading. Best of all, kids love it! Students will learn: value of pieces, the difference between check, check mate, and stalemate; basic checkmate patterns, opening principles and general strategic concepts. There will be instruction given, but also open play time where kids can try out their own strategies - plus a tournament with trophies and medals.
